In a low-powered electric motor, the permanent magnet rotor 3 is journalled in bearings formed in limbs 23, 35 of a pair of L-shaped members, the other limbs of which pass between the legs of the U-shaped stator 9. As described, the laminated U-shaped stator carries a wound bobbin (Fig. 2, not shown) on each leg and has grooves to receive the horizontal limb 33 of a metallic L-shaped member 35. The other L-shaped member 23 is moulded from nylon and has its horizontal limb forming the upper part of a I-section beam the web of which is inserted between the two stator bobbins and the flanges of which are arranged outside the flanges 14, 16 of the bobbins. The nylon member 23 is forced against the lower section of the U-shaped stator by springs (not shown) engaging the horizontal limb 33 or by tags 38 formed in that limb. The two L-shaped members are secured together by screws or rivets (not shown) or by tags 34 formed in member 33 being clinched into a recess 27 of member 23. The rotor 3 consists of a sheet of sintered oxidic permanent magnetic material over a core of nylon having a stub shaft 7 projecting from one end and formed with a recess 8 to accommodate a further shaft.
