PURPOSE:To set a soil standard corresponding to the circulating paper money of the areas where a soiled paper money identifying device is used respectively and also to properly cope with the change of the soil standard in terms of time. CONSTITUTION:A date coincidence deciding means 806 decides that the date when the soil standard and the soil threshold value are stored in a RAM 7 is not coincident with the date when a power supply is applied. At the same time, an automatic updating mode is selected. Under such conditions, a 2nd arithmetic means 807 calculates a new soil average (m) between the soil average stored in a soil standard storage means 72 and the soil average (ma) calculated from the data on the preceding joy stored in an updating data storage means 75. The means 807 applies the soil deviation alphaa stored in the means 75 as it is and calculates the threshold value corresponding to a pass level in regard of the normal distribution set by the average (m) and the soil deviation alpha. Then the threshold value of the level selected by an operator is used as the new soil threshold value among those threshold values corresponding to the pass level. |
