PURPOSE: A method of constructing memory management data is provided to enhance the reliability of a product by efficiently managing a memory with an independent data format. CONSTITUTION: A method of constructing memory management data is used in an apparatus for recording/reproducing digital data having a data storage made of plurality of blocks for storing digital data. The method divides the data storage into a memory management area and a data area in recording information. The memory management area is divided into a read-in data area, a chapter attribute table area and a data block positioning table area. The read-in data area includes format information of the data storage, size information of the memory management area and the data area, defective block information and a table for designating a management information area block. The chapter attribute table area includes chapter size information and table number information. The data block positioning table area includes information about the blocks of the data area.
