PURPOSE: A network-based character service system and method is provided to collect character information through a public advertisement or consignment and to construct a database after classifying the collected information in multiple stages so that users can easily search for desired characters using the constructed database. CONSTITUTION: A communication network(10) executes communication connection among many and unspecified persons so that data communication can be achieved mutually. A client PC(20), in which a web browser is installed so as to purchase a desired character through the communication network(10), outputs a character purchase request signal to a character provision server(40). And the client PC(20) outputs a screen according to the screen data inputted from the character provision server(40) in response to the character purchase request signal, provides character search information, inputted on the screen by the user, to the character provision server(40), and receives relevant character information. A character supply PC(30), in which a web browser to consign or advertise for desired characters is installed, outputs a character public advertisement or consignment signal to the character provision server(40), displays a screen according to the screen data inputted from the character provision server(40), and inputs character information.
