PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material having low humidity dependency of the line width of characters in development and capable of ensuring high image density (Dmax) even in a low humidity environment as a heat developable photosensitive material particularly for a photomechanical process and particularly for a scanner and an image setter. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material having an image forming layer containing at least a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, photosensitive silver halide, a nucleus forming agent and a binder on the support and also having a protective layer situated farther from the support with respect to the image forming layer reaches saturation swelling with distilled water at 21 deg.C in >=60 sec.
