PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize gradation characteristics of a dot photograph and those of a photographic paper photograph, without damaging the definition of the dot photograph. SOLUTION: An image is separated at least to dot areas and photograph areas by an image area separation part 105. A gamma table corresponding to an image area is selected from a gamma table group 106 by a table selection part 107 corresponding to with the result of this image area separation, and density conversion of gamma conversion characteristics determined by this gamma table is performed by a density conversion part 102. With this switching of gamma conversion characteristics, the same gradation characteristic are obtained in respective areas of the dot photograph and the photographic paper photograph, without having to conduct strong smoothing to lose undulations of dots by a filter processing part 101. |
