PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc alloy powder for a battery which is suppressed in gas generation, preventive of liquid leakage accident and enabled for discharge duration extention for enduring three-stage evaluation of an initial gas generating speed before usage, an after-partial-discharge gas generating speed during usage and an after-overdischarge gas generating speed after usage. SOLUTION: A zinc alloy, obtained by mixing at least one type of element selected from among Al of 1,000 ppm or less, Bi of 1000 ppm or less, In of 5,000 ppm or less and Mg of 100 ppm or lower with zinc as the rest is sprayed at a melting temperature of 450-600 degrees C into an inactive atmosphere or an inert atmosphere containing 0.5% or less oxygen, using as a spray gas an inactive gas of 450-600 degrees C or an inactive gas containing 0.5% or less oxygen, to form the zinc alloy powder which has an oxygen content of 150 ppm or less, a particle size of 75-450μm, a mass density of 3-5 g/cm3 and the ratio of a major-axis diameter to a minor-axis diameter being 1-1.8. |
