The vehicle seat consists of a seat, with an upper surface, which is approximately horizontal in use, and a seat back, with the rear face is standing up, in use. A hinge system (3 to 6) is fitted to each side of the seat to allow the back to be raised and lowered. Each hinge system consists of a carrier (3), fitted to the side wall of the vehicle (10), and with a horizontal shaft (4) mounted in a bearing in a housing (30). The shaft is also mounted so as to slide within a groove (6) fitted in a plate (60), fixed to the frame of the seat back.
