PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tatami mat for loose or free installation, which is inexpensive and light weight without play or slip. SOLUTION: The tatami mat for loose or free installation is obtained by covering a tatami mat core board formed of a square EVA board with a tatami surface having redundant portions at both longitudinal ends thereof. The tatami surface includes tatami frames attached to both lateral edges thereof, the tatami frames having redundant portions. Then, the tatami frames are folded back toward lateral end faces of the tatami mat core board and extended and fixed to the rear surface of the same. Further, the longitudinal redundant portions of the tatami surface are folded back toward longitudinal end faces of the tatami mat core board and then extended and fixed to the rear surface of the same.
