hydrogenation of nitrile groups to amine groups, using hydrogen in presence of hydrogenation catalyst and strong mineral base derived from alkali or alkaline earth metal comprises conditioning of hydrogenation catalyst by mixing it with mineral base and solvent in which the base is hardly soluble. Process of hydrogenation of nitrile groups to amine groups, using hydrogen in presence of hydrogenation catalyst and strong mineral base derived from alkali or alkaline earth metal comprises the stage of conditioning of catalyst by mixing it with specific amount of strong mineral base and a solvent in which this base is hardly soluble, followed by introducing this mixture, containing conditioned catalyst, into hydrogenation medium, containing compound to be hydrogenated and optional solvent.
