<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the STM, the ATM and the IP in a single network which is indispensable to a current situation of complicated structuring, operation and maintenance of networks resulting from respectively independent networks wherein various high technology factors have been complicatedly intertwined. SOLUTION: The communication unit of this invention is provided with an FIFO 1 that temporarily stores ATM cells mapped from a host layer, an FIFO 2 that temporarily stores UDL packets mapped from the host layer, an FIFO 3 that temporarily stores stuff packets, and a multiplexer circuit 101 that multiplexes ATM cells and UDL cells read from the FIFOs 1, 2 according to a clock. The multiplexer 101 arranges the cells and the packets in the order of being read form the FIFOs 1, 2, and inserts stuff packets from the FIFO 3 to the gaps thereof so as to configure virtual frames with a prescribed period, and a self-synchronous scrambler 102 randomizes the virtual frames.</p> |
