PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone device which can prevent, for example, the facsimile function of a telephone device as a communication partner from malfunctioning when the telephone device detects incorrectly a holding tone as a control signal for communication by preventing a signal component of the control signal for communication such as a CNG signal from being mixed with the holding tone sent out to the communication partner through a telephone line. SOLUTION: A control part 17 cooperates with a modem 30 to determine whether or not data of a holding tone stored in a holding tone data memory 19A is detected incorrectly as the control signal for communication such as the CNG signal (S13). When the modem 30 and control part 17 determine that the data of the holding tone are detected incorrectly as the control signal for communication, that is displayed on a liquid crystal display 6 to give a warning (S14).
