PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provided an endoscope system that can obtain an excellent image over its entire image display areas. SOLUTION: An image adjustment circuit 21 adjusting an image receives a signal picked up by an image pickup element of an electronic endoscope via a pre-process circuit 18, applies analog/digital conversion to the signal and a frame memory 32 temporarily stores the resulting signal. An automatic or manual changeover switch 33 selects any of amplifier circuits A-E (34A-34E), the selected amplifier circuit adjusts the image so that the luminance characteristic from the center of a display area toward peripherals is made flat and a monitor displays the resulting image. The lightness made flat over the entire image display area so as obtain an easy to see image even in a view state where a surrounding part of the display area gets dark or the middle part of the area is dark.
