PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device of high display quality causing few afterimages. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, the display pixel is formed by electrodes on a substrate, and an alignment layer for a liquid crystal is formed directly or with an insulating film interposed on the substrate. The substrate is disposed to face a substrate with an alignment layer formed, and a liquid crystal layer is held between the substrates. The electrodes are formed to generate an electric field, which is almost parallel to the substrates and the electrodes are connected to an external control means. The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a polarizing means for changing the optical characteristics of the liquid crystal layer. The display device has features such that when a figure is displayed for 30 minutes, the period from the time when the display part is erased to the time when the display part cannot be distinguished from a nondisplay part is within 5 minutes. |
