PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning control method of a magnetic disk device capable of quickly realizing stable settling without generating any overshoot or undershoot at a target position concerning a moving distance ranging from one track seek to about 16 track seek in which it is necessary to realize positioning in a moving time equivalent to the resonance frequency of a mechanism system. SOLUTION: This positioning control method comprises a method (1) for generating a position and speed orbit for decreasing the power of specific frequencies, a method (2) for generating acceleration feedforward compensation for allowing a head to accurately reach a target position even when a feedback system does not function under a condition that any disturbance does not act from the outside part, and a method (3) for generating a position orbit corrected by a model to be controlled obtained by accurately modeling resonance oscillation until a moving frequency band. Those three method are combined so that high speed seek can be operated concerning a moving distance ranging from 1 to about 16 track seek.
