PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit maintenance and inspection till the underground joining and to join a penetration side shield machine with a receiver side shield machine after its reaching without excavating again by making most of the inner structures of the penetration side shield machine removable when the penetration side shield machine reaches a joining point prior to the receiver side shield machine. SOLUTION: When the penetration side shield machine 1B reaches the joining point prior to the receiver side shield machine 1A, most of the inner structures of the shield machine 1B are removed to wait till the underground joining. In the underground joining, the outer barrel 2 of the shield machine 1A is relatively moved frontward to the inner structure and externally fitted around the front end of the shield machine 1B.
