The insulation sleeve (2) for a tubular component is made from mineral fibres subjected to lengthwise compression along an axis corresponding to that of the sleeve and mixed with a binding agent. The ratio of the compression is between 3 and 5 : 1; the thickness of the sleeve wall is between about 150 and 300 mm, and its density is between about 15 and 30 kg/cu m. It also has an outer flexible covering layer between 5 and 300 microns thick of aluminum or polymer, and a lengthwise slit (3) and groove (4) for fitting to a tubular component.
