MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of attaining high output in an ultrahigh band of >9 MHz (recording at a short wavelength of about 0.6 μm). SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate. The magnetic layer contains a magnetic powder and a binder, the coercive force (Hcp) of the magnetic powder satisfies the expression H cm-H cp >=8.5 kA/m in relation to the coercive force (H cm) of the magnetic recording medium and the residual saturation magnetic flux density Br of the magnetic recording medium is >=150 mT.
