PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner for contact single-component development to produce good image gradation and image density even under conditions of high temperature and high humidity by obtaining a preferable gradation curve. SOLUTION: In the method of forming an image including an electrification process, latent image forming process, toner layer forming process, developing process, transferring process and fixing process, the toner layer on a toner carrying body 55 is regulated by a toner regulating member 57 in the toner layer forming process, and the NE length is specified to >=0.1μm and <5.0μm. The toner used for this method is nonmagnetic single-component toner containing a binder resin and a coloring agent, and the coloring agent contains a pigment having the basic structural formula (1).
