PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance data access efficiency in an information storage system to store data constituted of a plurality of items. SOLUTION: A plurality of storage units (such as files) are provided in a data storage means 31. When data are stored, a data access means 22 acquires storage destination information on the data from a storage destination information storage means 32, decides the storage unit of storage destination of each item value by referring to the storage destination information and the item values in the data and stores storage format data. A storage destination automatic specifying means 25 creates the storage destination information from the statistical information on data access so that the data access efficiency is optimized, a storage destination specifying means 24 stores the created storage destination information into the storage destination information storage means 32. When the storage destination information is updated, a data converting means 23 stores the existing data again according to new storage destination information bit by bit when a system load is low.
