PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for image pickup, which prevent an image device from being damaged by radiation. SOLUTION: An image pickup device 10 has a housing 11, made of a radiation shielding material. The housing 11 is divided into a first chamber 21, a second chamber 22, and a third chamber 23. The first chamber 21 is provided with a window part 11a and a mirror 12 which reflects subject light L, made incident from the window part 11a toward the second chamber 22 and the third chamber 23. The second chamber 22 is provided with an optical system, which converges the subject light L reflected by the mirror 12, and the third chamber 23 is provided with image pickup devices 16B, 16R, and 16G which detect the subject light L. Radiation R, made incident on the housing 11 through the window part 11a will not reach the third chamber 23, because it is being transmitted through the mirror 12 in the first chamber 21. Consequently, image pickup devices 16B, 16R, and 16G in the third chamber 23 will not be irradiation with radiation.
