PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure steam discharge lamp which is safe and having superior quality. SOLUTION: A luminous tube 1, an adjacent auxiliary conductor 6 attached to the tube 1, and a start circuit connected parallel with the tube 1 are built in an outer globe, in a high-pressure steam discharge lamp. The tube is comprised of a light-transmittance alumina tube, where at least a metal halide, mercury, and inert gases are fed inside hereinto, and the start circuit is comprised of a starter and a tungsten filament connected serially. The constitution has end of the conductor one connected between the starter and the tungsten filament.
