PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmitter and an image transmitting method which are suitable to be used by both a network scanner and an Internet facsimile. SOLUTION: An IFAX 1 decides which to perform between IFAX transmission processing and network scanner processing on the basis of which is pressed down between a start button and a scanner button after an operator inputs a destination mail address. When IFAX transmission processing is performed, a journal is inserted into an original image and e-mail is also transmitted to an IFAX 8 via a mail server 3. Meanwhile, when network scanner processing is performed, the IFAX 1 does not perform journal preparation, bit mapping, compression or synthesis with the original image. Then, the IFAX 1 transfers the original image to a PC 4 without inserting the journal into the original image. Thus, the journal is prevented from being an obstacle when the PC 4 handles the original image.
