The fishing reel has a housing (1) in which a reel support shaft (2) and a transverse crankshaft (3) are mounted. A gearwheel (6) can slide along the support shaft under the action of a connector (20) which pivots about a transverse axis (21). This is controlled by a lever (5) which moves the gearwheel forward or backwards, so that it engages with a locking component (12) on the housing. The connector can also be moved towards the locking position by rotating the crankshaft so that a stop (25) pushes it.
