PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion thruster having a hollow cathode structure which is easily manufactured, and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The ion thruster is provided with a cathode structure 50 having a heater 66. The cathode structure 50 comprises an inner ceramic sleeve 52, an outer ceramic sleeve 58 covering the inner ceramic sleeve 52, and having a filament containing space 64 between an inner surface 62 thereof and an outer surface 54 of the inner ceramic sleeve 52, a wound filament 66 disposed in the filament containing space 64, and ceramic powder 68 filling a remaining portion of the filament continuing space 64 between windings of the filament 66. A cathode 76 is disposed inside the inner ceramic sleeve 52 of the heater 66. |
