<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal light valve, which uses a semiconductor substrate and which has superior resistance against light and which enables fast writing of video signals, and to provide a projection type display, in which the image of high definition and high quality can be displayed. SOLUTION: Three layers of metal layers divided by slits are formed on a semiconductor substrate, having a switching element region and the layers, are arranged with the slits in each layer shifted in the direction parallel to the semiconductor substrate to shield the semiconductor substrate from light. Two layers of metal layers divided by slits are formed on the semiconductor substrate, and a semiconductor region for the reference potential is formed in the place, where the incident light through the slit reaches the semiconductor substrate. A substrate feed line for supplying the substrate potential in the substrate potential region, and the holding capacitance region in the switching element region is formed in one of the above metal layers. The substrate feed line and the video signal line are arranged parallel to each other.</p> |
