PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine capable of directly forming inflammable air-fuel mixture near a spark plug by injecting fuel at any position of a piston in a stratified charge combustion. SOLUTION: This cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine comprises a spark plug 6 disposed at the upper part of a cylinder, a fuel injection valve 7 injecting fuel toward near the spark plug, and a gas injection nozzle 8 for causing a gas flow, passing near the underside or side of the fuel spray injected from the fuel injection valve, in the cylinder.
