PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective technique to minimize the space necessary for a socket itself and operation of the same. SOLUTION: A sliding device, making a slide cover 20 move reciprocally between the first position where a lead pin 51 can be inserted to a terminal installing part in a base housing 10 through a through hole 23, and the second position where the lead pin 51, inserted to the terminal installing part, is made to contact a terminal 40 electrically, is installed. The sliding device includes a movable member 30, installed in a state of being moved reciprocally, and an operation part 31, applying the force to make the movable member 30 move reciprocally, and a conversion part, converting the reciprocal movement of the movable member 30 into the reciprocal movement of the slide cover part 20. By the above, instead that an operation handle rotating in the vertical plane become unnecessary, the slide cover is got to slide by dint of the reciprocal movement of the movable part 30 in a horizontal plane.
