The invention concerns a modulation process in which the information is modulated on the signal phase. To this end, a differential detection process employs a plurality of differential detectors which only differ in terms of the time interval between the sampled values used for calculating the differential phase. The outputs of the differential detectors are fed to a Viterbi detector for the sequential evaluation of the data sequence emitted.
