Production of mechanically connected fuel cells comprises electrically separating sections (1) of a substrate made of electrode material whilst the boundaries (4) between the sections are treated; applying electrolyte layers (2); and further applying electrodes (3) to the electrolyte layers. Preferred Features: The sections are made from nickel-cermet. The boundaries and the electrolyte layers are made from yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide. The electrodes are made from lanthanum-strontium manganite. The substrate is 500-5000 microns m thick.
