The profile has a wedge (20) for producing a profile (10) and a forced closure connecting and releasably clamping the glass plates(11). The wedge is thick and has a wedge angle (24) of more than 15 degrees. In a recess (17) partly enclosing the glass plates in the profile (10), the wedge is so introduced that, with exception of the force direction for fixing or releasing the connection, the closure between the profile and the enclosed area of the glass plates is upheld. The recess of the profile incorporates a locating surface (24) for the appropriate area of the glass plates, an inclined wedge surface (26) towards the locating surface, together with a basic area inclined approximately at right-angles to the locating surface through which a positioning screw (33) extends, applying the wedge in the force direction.
