ISSUING AND DISTRIBUTION OF TOKENS

A method for issuing and distributing personalised tokens, comprises the steps of: issuing a personalized token, together with a PIN and an activation code, the token having an operational status which is either active when the token is disabled for use; delivering the issued token and the corresponding PIN to an intended user of the token, the status of the token being set to be inactive prior to the delivery thereof; separately delivering the corresponding activation code to the intended user of the token; submitting the activation code and the PIN, upon receipt thereof, by means of a user access facility; altering the operational status of the token to be active if the submitted activation code is valid.
