The ignition coil has a core of magnetically permeable material with associated primary and secondary coils. There is a housing (22) of electrically insulating material, and a magnetically permeable screening (24) is arranged outwards from the housing. The secondary winding (36) is wound progressively on a secondary winding coil body (34). The secondary winding (36) has a predetermined number of layers, and each layer is arranged at a pre-selected angle in an axial direction on the coil body (34).
