The drive unit control method responds to the operating level of an operating element controlled by the driver for corresponding control of a drive unit operating parameter, with adjustment of the pedal sensitivity for converting the operating level into a parameter magnitude upon detecting that the vehicle is travelling along a poor road surface. An independent claim for an automobile drive unit control device is also included.
