The carrier for attachment at the rear of a motor vehicle has a base support which has a lower support unit as a rearwards extendable body section(1). The extension of the body section is effected by two double links(3,3') which extend in scissor fashion, whereby the free end of the forward body side link(9) is hinge-connected to the rear(11) of the vehicle, and the free end of the rear link(10) is hinge-connected to the extendable body section. The extendable body section may be a rear apron, rear light mounting strip or spoiler, for example.
