The low pressure discharge lamp has a lamp base and at least one gas filled discharge vessel. There is also an electronic starter arrangement including a rectifier. An operating duration measuring circuit (5) is integrated in the mains connected starter unit, with a counter (Z1) for counting and storing the current pulses of the consumed AC current. This is connected with a status indicator (A1), for reproducing a signal, and is activated with a specified number of counts corresponding to the respective life duration of the signal. This is connectable across the lamp base, in the current circuit of a separate indicating unit with a display (D1) for reading out the number of the counted current pulses, as a measure for the respective operating time of the discharge lamp.
