[Also in Divisions B5, B8, C3 and C4] Surfaces of metal, paper and polyolefines are coated with compositions comprising a polyolefin wax having a molecular weight of 1000-5000 and modified by reaction with a carboxylic acid or anhydride and from 0.1- 25% by weight of the wax of an organic peroxide. Surfaces so-coated possess adhesion for polyolefins. The compositions may be applied to the substrates either as solutions in organic solvents or as aqueous emulsions. The examples describe coating (1 and 2) paperboard and tinplate with toluene solutions of benzoyl peroxide and maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene wax, (3-7) paperboard with aqueous emulsions of maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene wax and dicumyl, benzoyl and acetyl peroxides, (8-17) polyethylene bottles, polyethylene sheet and polypropylene sheet with printing inks to which have been added aqueous emulsions containing benzoyl peroxide and maleic acid- and maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene waxes, (18-20) corrugated paperboard and coated paperboards with printing inks to which have been added aqueous emulsions containing benzoyl peroxide and maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene wax, (21-23 and 25) polyethylene film with printing inks to which have been added aqueous emulsions containing benzoyl peroxide and maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene wax, (24) polyethylene film with printing ink to which has been added an aqueous emulsion containing dicumyl peroxide and a thioglycolic acidmodified polyethylene wax, and (26 and 27) polyethylene film with aqueous emulsions containing a peroxide and maleic anhydridemodified polyethylene wax.</p> |
