The protective cladding (8) is made of foldable together material, which in a usage position covers the boot(1) at least in areas and is releasably fixable to the boot with fixture devices (10). In the non-usage position it can be folded together and stowed in a box in the boot area. When required for use, the cladding is unfoldable out of the stowage box and fixed to the walls of the boot by the fixture devices. The unfolding process can be enacted rapidly and securely. In a preferred usage form, the cladding can be taken out of the boot and folded into a pocket or sea-bag formation.
