HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR PISTON MEASUREMENT APPARATUS AND METHOD

A method and device for use with a hydraulic system (10) is adapted to measure a position, velocity and/or acceleration of a piston (20) of a hydraulic actuator (18) based upon differential pressure measurement. The device (50) of the present invention utilizes a differential pressure flow sensor (52) to establish a flow rate of a hydraulic fluid flow traveling into and out of a cavity of the hydraulic actuator (18), from which the position, velocity and acceleration of the piston (20) can be determined.
