The supply of gas to a building is closed by a heat-released shut-off valve with a housing which has a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The gas passage through the housing has a seal adjacent with a spring-operated bung. In normal operation the bung is held by the surrounding material, which has a low melting point. In the event of fire, the surrounding material melts to release the spring-operated plunger, shutting off the gas supply. The plunger can especially also be released by remote manual operation.
