PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for imparting hydrophilicity which can simply form a film having hydrophilic performance on various kinds of substrates such as glass, can form a film excellent in durability, high hardness and high transparency and also can turn the substrates into ones excellent in water resistance, chemical resistance, etc. SOLUTION: This coating composition for imparting hydrophilicity features comprising (1) at least one kind of inorganic corpuscles selected from the group consisting of aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide and titanium oxide, (2) at least one kind of silicon oxide film-forming raw materials selected from the group consisting of an alkoxysilane, a polycondensation reaction product thereof and silicon oxide corpuscles and (3) a solvent. The coating composition may further comprise a magnesium compound.
