PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing copolymer excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance and particularly in molding processing properties. SOLUTION: The method for producing the fluorine-containing copolymer comprises polymerizing 10-95 mole % of a fluoroolefin monomer, 5-80 mole % of an ethylenically unsaturated bond-containing monomer bearing an imido group represented by formula (1) or formula (2), and 0-70 mole % of other copolymerizable monomers in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator, provided that the total amount of the all monomer units is 100 mole %. In the formula (1) and formula (2), R, R1 and R2 are independently a hydrogen atom, a 4C or lower alkyl group, or R1 and R2 are each a hydrocarbyl group combined together to form a 5- or 6-membered ring.
