PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving fatigue life of large/medium steel wheels. SOLUTION: In this method for improving fatigue life of a large/medium steel wheel, high-frequency quenching is conducted from the back side in the axial direction of the wheel for a hub mounting part 5 of a disc 2 of the large/ medium steel wheel 1 to form a martensite tissue only on a surface layer 9 on the back side in the axial direction of the hub mounting part 4, and apply compressive residual stress.
