PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diamond dresser using prismatic diamond which can provide a desired service life. SOLUTION: In this blade type diamond dresser 10, a plurality of prismatic diamonds 18 having uniform rectangular sections is buried in a dressing surface 16 so that the end surface is exposed to the dressing surface 16, and the longitudinal side of the rectangular section is parallel to the frictional direction of the dressing surface 16. Therefore, dressing is performed so that the rectangular end surface of the prismatic diamond 18 is parallel to the frictional direction of the grinding surface of a cutting grinding wheel 20. Even if the width (short- edge) dimension W of the rectangular end surface of the diamond 18 is as small as 0.3 mm or less, for example, and a local falling is caused on the downstream side of the rectangular end surface, the falling is never progressed over a prescribed degree, and the sliding surface left on the rectangular end surface of the prismatic diamond 18 is sufficiently ensured, so that the dispersion in useful life of the blade type diamond dresser 10 can be prevented suitably.
