PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for strongly cooling a steel strip while stably threading the tip part of the steel strip to which tension is not applied after the strip is delivered from the final finishing mill till the strip reaches a coiler in the case the steel strip is rapidly cooled. SOLUTION: A cooling device 3 for cooling the steel strip by installing nozzles 11, 9 for jetting cooling water onto the upper and back surfaces of the steel strip on a run out table 3 where the steel strip is conveyed on the plural rotating roller tables 8 and vertically symmetrically jetting cooling water to the steel strip is arranged just near in the rear of the final finishing mill 2E and the steel strip is conveyed into a narrow gap where is held between guides 10c from the rolling mill to the cooling device.
