PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for junction between a glass pipe and another glass pipe or a glass rod, ensuring glass fine powder produced due to heating in the junction not to adhere to the inner wall of the hole of the glass pipe(s). SOLUTION: This junction method comprises the following practice: the edge face of a 1st glass pipe 1 and that of a 2nd glass pipe 2 or glass rod 5 are faced 5-20 mm apart from each other, a nonflammable gas such as a nitrogen gas is brought via the other end of the 1st glass pipe 1 into the hole 1a to keep the pressure inside the 1st glass pipe 1 higher than the atmospheric pressure, concurrently while axially rotating the 1st glass pipe 1 and the 2nd glass pipe 2 or glass rod 5 respectively, the vicinity of the edge faces facing each other is heated by the flame 4 of an oxyhydrogen flame burner 4, and glass fine powder produced from a heated part is blown off the glass pipe(s) by the aid of the nonflammable gas blown out via the gap between both the edge faces, and both the edge faces are abutted on each other just when the vicinity of both the edge faces is heated, thus accomplishing the objective junction. |
