PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject apparatus capable of breaking a glass plate quickly and accurately so as to improve operating efficiency and enabling high- quality processed products to be obtained as well. SOLUTION: This apparatus 1 has breaking means 3 and 3a each for breaking a glass plate 2 and moving means 5 and 5a each for moving the breaking means 3 and 3a in the X and Y directions, respectively; wherein the moving means 5 has an electric linear motor 10 with a needle 6 and a stator 7 and another electric linear motor 11 with a needle 8 and a stator 9, while the moving means 5a has an electric linear motor 10a with a needle 6a and a stator 7a and another electric linear motor 11a with a needle 8a and a stator 9a.
