PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a boring machine for a defective part of wood wherein automatic recognition of a size of a defective part of dead node, a knothole or the like and a boring position, and automatic shave-forming for an appropriate bored hole can be carried out. SOLUTION: By a conveying means for conveying wood wherein an almost circular recognition mark is previously marked on the defective part of the dead node, knothole or the like by a marker; an image photographing means for photographing the recognition mark; a processing means for calculating by analyzing the size of the defective part in the recognition mark by an image data of the recognition mark obtained from the image-photographing means and its central position; and the shave-forming means wherein boring is carried out by an appropriate boring hole according to the size of the defective part based o the information, automatic recognition of the size of the defective part for the bead node, the knothole or the like and the working position, and automatic shave forming for the appropriate working hole can be carried out.
