GRADIENT MAGNETIC FIELD COIL HAVING AMPLIFIER CAPABLE OF SWITCHING MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an operator to select a split coil mode of a fast imaging sequence or a series coil mode of a high intensity imaging but with a long starting time. SOLUTION: A new gradient magnetic field coil arrangement is provided for allowing an MRI system to switch the split coil arrangement and the series coil arrangement. A pair of gradient magnetic field coil amplifiers are connected to be switched for driving a pair of gradient magnetic field coils separately or together. In the split coil mode, each amplifier drives each gradient magnetic field coil independently and the coils are not connected to each other. In the series coil mode, the pair of amplifiers are connected in parallel for driving the pair of the gradient magnetic field coils and the coils are connected in series.
