PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which an image can be formed at high speed even in color mode so long as a monochromatic image is formed and charged correctly. SOLUTION: In a printer function, a CPU 11 performs decomposition based on the data of PDL received through a communication interface 14 to generate data of intermediate language. Based on the value of image data, a decision is made whether an image only of K is formed or other colors are included. In case of an image only of K, rendering from intermediate language to image data, compression of data at a compressing section 16, decompression of encoded data at a decomposing section 17, and imaging at an imaging section 18 are performed only for K and not performed for other colors. Consequently, an image can be formed monochromatically at high speed even if color is designated and charged as a monochromatic image.
